Karaman (Laranda) has been home to civilizations since the BCE 8000s.  Serving as a military and trade centre for the Hittite Empire, Karaman later came under the rule of Phrygia and the Lydians.

Prior to its fall to the Ottomans, Karaman (Laranda)was the capital of the Karamanid state. Its deep-rooted history offers a window into the daily routines of the societies and people of antiquity, while its numerous natural beauties also attract attention.
